When it comes to deciding on an eCommerce platform for your online store there are loads to choose from. At Pixxles, we’re proud to support integrations with a range of shopping cart providers, with one of our largest affiliate eCommerce platforms being Shopify.
Shopify is trusted by over 1 million businesses from 175 countries and accounts for roughly 15% of the eCommerce platform market. With so many merchants around the world using Shopify as their platform of choice you may be wondering how the payment side of things works.
In this blog, we will be covering payment processing on Shopify and how long it can take for you to receive a payment.
WHAT PAYMENT GATEWAY DOES SHOPIFY USE?
In order to leverage Shopify payment processing, you need a payment gateway. They’re kind of a package deal.
Gateways are essentially the conduit between the bank that issued your customers’ payment card and yourself as the business owner. It’s the source by which authorisation is communicated. You can’t have one without the other.
Given how big Shopify is, the eCommerce company offers its very own gateway called Shopify Payments. However, you can still use a third-party provider, which may better suit your business needs.
As an all-in-one provider, Pixxles allows its merchant account holders to achieve speed without having to sacrifice security. We support full integration with the Shopify shopping cart and you can actually watch your transactions taking place in real time.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE A PAYMENT FROM SHOPIFY?
The short answer? It depends.
The long answer? Payment processing is just that – a process. When your customers pay through their debit or credit card, either by entering their numbers online or inserting the card into a point-of-sale (POS) terminal, it goes through several stages. This includes authorisation, capture, clearing and funding.
While the process itself takes seconds, the time it takes for those funds to show up in your payment account can range anywhere from 24-72 hours.
The speed of this process can vary depending on what day of the week it is, as some payments may not post until Monday rolls around if transactions were conducted at the weekend.
There may also be slight differences in how quickly you’ll receive the funds in your bank account if other online payment methods are used, such as a mobile device. But typically, this should take 1-3 business days.
